FAQ's
1. What can I do with a free membership?
With a free membership, you can use all the features of YourMemories.com.au, just as you could with a paid membership. The only limitation of a free membership is the amount of data (photos, videos, text, etc.) you can save.

2. What’s the difference between the various types of membership on YourMemories.com.au?
The higher your membership level, the more storage space you get. That’s the only difference.

3. I’ve reached my free storage limit on YourMemories.com.au. Can I add new photos and videos without upgrading to the paid membership?
Yes. Simply delete some / all of existing photos or video in order to make space available for the new ones or upgrade your package.

4. How do I upload photos or videos (i.e. save them to YourMemories.com.au)?
Once you’ve logged into your account, go to the Photos page, and simply click Upload Photos or Upload Video. You’ll then be prompted to select the photos/videos to upload. Normally you’ll need to click Browse at the Open dialog, then navigate through the folders on your computer until you find the photos/video you want to upload. If you continue having trouble with the upload process, please email us at admin@yourmemories.com.au or call 1800 810 551 during business hours (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST)).

5. How much storage space do I get for sharing my family album and family videos, etc.?
It all depends on your membership level:

Free Member 10MB
$10/month - 100MB
$100/year - 100MB
$50/month - 1000MB
$300/year - 1000MB

6. I know how much storage space I have in Megabytes (MB), but approx how many photos does this equate to (or minutes of video)?
The size of photos and videos depends on their picture quality. As a rule of thumb, the higher the resolution (i.e. the more defined the image), the bigger the file size. Photos generally vary from between 200KB to 5MB each. So with a free membership, you could potentially save up to around 50 photos. Video files are generally much bigger, and also depend on duration. A 10MB video shot on a standard family digital video camera would normally be around X-Y minutes long.

7. Can I upload all of my printed photos?
Yes. But you have to convert them to a digital format first. Most photo processing shops will be able to do this for you. Alternatively, if you own a scanner, you can simply scan them onto your computer, then upload.

8. Can I upload all of my old film?
Yes. But you have to convert it to a digital format first. There are many companies that can do this for you. We recommend wmv, mpeg or avi format.

9. Can I make my digital photos smaller so that I can save more on YourMemories.com.au?
Yes. Most digital cameras come with their own editing software. Once you’ve backed up a copy of the original (i.e. the highest quality), try using your camera’s editing software to reduce the physical size of the photo. This normally reduces the file size significantly. Bear in mind that it will also reduce the picture quality, but most viewers will expect this for an online photo. And huge photos take too long to download anyway, so most people probably wouldn’t be able (or willing) to download them. Remember, most Internet users in Australia have a download limit. If they download (view) too many big files, they may exceed their limit and be charged extra.

10. My family videos are huge. They only just fit on a DVD. Can I reduce their size before uploading?
Yes. Most digital video cameras come with their own editing software. Once you’ve backed up a copy of the original (i.e. the highest quality), try using your camera’s editing software to convert the file to MPEG format. This will normally reduce the file size significantly. Bear in mind that it will also reduce the picture quality, but most viewers will expect this for an online video. And huge videos take too long to download anyway, so most people probably wouldn’t be able (or willing) to download them. Remember, most Internet users in Australia have a download limit. If they download (view) too many big files, they may exceed their limit and be charged extra.

11. Do I have to pay each time I upload (save) a file to YourMemories.com.au?
No. You only pay us for your membership, which entitles you to a set amount of storage space. If you reach this limit, you won’t be charged extra; you just won’t be able to upload additional files without deleting existing files from YourMemories.com.au or upgrading your membership level. IMPORTANT: Remember, however, that if you’re like most Australians, you probably have an upload limit associated with your Internet access plan. Your Internet access plan defines the conditions and limitations of your connection to the Internet. It is provided by an Internet Service Provider (ISP) like BigPond, Optus, Westnet, etc. If you exceed your upload limit (i.e. you save too many big files to YourMemories.com.au or anywhere else on the Internet), you may be charged additional fees or have your connection speed temporarily decreased. If in doubt, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and ask them for the details of your plan.
